Mayan Maize God

Lots of hub-bub this year about the Mayan long-count calendar ending and thus bringing on the "end of the world" in December 2012. Of course, the Mayans never declared the end of the world. Their writing only suggests a new age of man. Still, I thought it would be funny if the Mayan gods returned, particularly the Maize god, and he was pissed. Here is Leaf's. He says, "Skeleton god, the lightening god, the bird god, and the magic god are on a team. Because the lightening god wanted to be a lightening controller is why he can destroy meteors by shooting lightening and exploding them in the air. Magic god is master."

Santa Ambushers

Doing a Santa drawing was Leaf's idea. I spent some time playing with frames and shading in Photoshop. At first I was going to do a Mad-Max Santa, but it seemed too obvious. I thought it more interesting to have Santa trying to continue his work, during the apocalypse. Here is Leaf's, which he didn't feel much like coloring. He says, "Two reindeer were having a talk together. Santa is saying maybe my bag is too little to fit all the toys. I keep having to come home to get more toys for the kids. One elf has a stocking hanging from his chin. And the elves are yelling woo-hoo. There's a person walking on tons of steps."

Plague Developer

Still working on color. Also I'm trying to go back and color the old one's. My ideas for these doodles tend to come from half-baked scifi ideas that I'll never write a story for. . . This one I had this great idea for a Dangerous-Vision like ending, where the scientist while musing about dinosaurs and patterns in nature, makes the call to destroy the entire human race and revert a few million years of evolution. Of course, my drawing made the whole idea goofy. . . because that's what happens when I doodle something. But there is a serious idea here, I swear!

Here is Leaf's and there is a very complex story that goes along with it, that I could barely follow. We have been reading the Secret of NIMH, which was another inspiration for the topic of these drawings.

Post Apocalyptic Knocker

My drawn version (before I scanned), has a bunch of crumbling buildings, but they seemed to clutter the illustration. Maybe I'll use them somewhere else? That's one of the nice things about Photoshop. You can keep or remove little bits.

Adding Leaf's version below. . . I can't decide whose is better. . .
